Your Shopify store is up and running, and you're eager to set up a few more domains to expand into new markets. Let's look at how to set up Shopify multiple domains under one account.

Can You Have Multiple Domains in Shopify?

In short, yes. Shopify allows only one primary domain. Fortunately, you can add up to 10 subdomains to your Shopify store in addition to your myshopify.com URL. If you use the Shopify Plus plan, then you can add up to 1,000 domains or subdomains. Additionally, Shopify Plus lets you establish multiple stores for multiple areas, allowing your site to be accessible to a broader potential customer base.

It's important to remember that having several domains isn't the same as having multiple Shopify stores under one domain. Having multiple subdomains is simply a strategy used to draw a larger demographic to one shop.

How to Add a Subdomain to Your Shopify Store

You can set up a subdomain for your Shopify-managed domain by following these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, navigate to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click Manage for the domain that you want to customize.
  3. Under the Subdomains section, select Add subdomain.
  4. Enter the prefix you wish to add:
    • Enter the two-letter country code for your target market when creating foreign subdomains. For example, "fr" for France or "hk" for Hong Kong.
    • For all other subdomains, enter the text that you wish to add as a prefix. For instance, "outlet" or "blog."
  5. Click Add subdomain.

Benefits of Multiple Domains on Shopify

One of the numerous benefits of subdomains is setting up international domains for creating Shopify expansion stores targeting customers from other countries or regions. Therefore, you maintain brand recognition by reassuring customers that the subdomain is a valid extension of your permanent domain.

In addition, creating a dedicated client portal allows you to check orders and see promotions in one convenient location. Last but not least, you can start a blog.
