How Do You Add a Collection in Shopify?
Not sure how to add a collection in Shopify? This step-by-step guide is just what you need.
Updated July 27, 2023.
Shopify collections are a way to group products together. Store owners can create collections according to a range of different criteria: type, color, size, or any attribute of their choice.
Types of Collections
There are two types of collections that can be used for Shopify inventory management:
- An automated collection uses one or more conditions out of 60 options to automatically cluster products together.
- A manual collection is built by manually clustering products.
How to Add a Collection to Shopify
We'll start with automated collections:
- From your Shopify admin's side menu, click Products, then Collections.
- Then, click the Create collection button.
- Fill out the collection details, including the title and description.
- Once the relevant details are filled out, select Automated from the Collection type panel.
- In the Conditions section, set a clustering condition. For example, if you'd like to cluster products by their title, select Product title from the drop-down menu, then Contains, then the title keyword—perhaps something like "jeans" would work.
- If you'd like, add subsequent conditions by clicking the Add another condition button.
- Add any further collection information, like setting a collection image or varying the collection availability.
- Once you've finished editing, click the Save button to set up your new collection. To be sure the newly added collection creation was successful, scroll down. Here, you'll see the products that have been automatically added to your new collection.
Creating a manual collection:
- Follow the first three steps above.
- For Step 4, instead of selecting automated, select Manual.
- Just like before, edit or change any details you'd like.
- Once ready, click the Save button.
- This will create a panel below the collection information. Here, search for and add any products you'd like to group in this collection using the Browse button.
- Click the Finish button when ready.
- Go ahead and order the products in the order you'd like, and click the Save button when you are done.
