What causes dead stock?
Asked 3 years ago
Hi, I've been researching inventory management, the techniques used to optimize it, how to analyze it, and decided which products would be best-sellers. However, I am wondering what the cause of dead stock would be? Could it be due to overstocking? How do I avoid it?

Poor product, low demand, poor data, not accepting reality and so on. Some products have poor quality, poor designs, poor branding etc. Some products have poor marketing or have been pushed out of the market by a new product. In the case of deadstock, what you can do is to reduce the price of these products to attract consumers, as you may never sell those products if you don't. To prefer deadstock, make sure you do proper inventory optimisation.
