Solved—Changing Featured Collections in Shopify
Updated July 3, 2023

Some people have issues with editing their featured collections in Shopify, which is what we're going to try and solve today.
The most common reason why some people are unable to edit their featured collections in Shopify is that their collection type is set to automated. All you need to do is change it to manual, and that should sort out the problem.
How to Change Featured Collections in Shopify
So you've set up your collection, but it was a while ago. Now you want to shake things up and maybe entice more customers to your store.
But how do you do that? Shopify is simple and easy to use, so you can change your featured collection by following these steps:
1. Log in to your Shopify admin page.
2. Proceed to Online Store > Themes.
3. Find your current theme and click the Edit theme button.
4. At the top of the page, you'll see a dropdown menu (it might say "Home page" or show a house icon). Click it to select which page template you want to edit. For most stores, featured collections appear on the Home page, so select that.
5. In the left sidebar, look for a section called Featured collection (the exact name may vary depending on your theme - it could also be "Collection list," "Product grid," or similar).
6. If you don't see a featured collection section, click Add section and search for "Featured collection" or "Collection" to add one.
7. Click on the Featured collection section to open its settings in the right sidebar.
8. In the settings panel, you'll see the Collection dropdown at the top (it shows your currently selected collection). Click this dropdown and then click Replace to select a different collection you want to feature.
9. Optional customizations
You can also adjust:
- Type: Change the layout style (Grid, List, etc.)
- Carousel on mobile: Toggle to enable swipeable carousel on mobile
- Product count: Use the slider or type a number to show more or fewer products
- Columns: Adjust how many products appear per row on desktop
- Mobile columns: Choose 1 or 2 columns for mobile display
- Horizontal/Vertical gap: Adjust spacing between products
- Section layout: Choose width (Page or Full), alignment (Left, Center, Right)
- Color scheme: Select a different color scheme
- Padding: Adjust top and bottom spacing for the section
10. Click Save in the top right corner to publish your changes to your live store
Expert Tips:
- You can add multiple featured collection sections to your homepage by clicking "Add section" and selecting featured collection again.
- Preview your changes in real-time in the theme editor before saving.
- You can reorder sections by dragging and dropping them in the left sidebar.
- Different themes have different section names and options, so explore your theme's available settings.
However, if this all seems too complicated, there are online programs that assist with changing the order of products.
