Product variant IDs can be an invaluable tool to help with inventory management and organization. These unique identifiers allow you to easily distinguish between different variations of a single product, making it simpler to track your stock levels and sales.

Fortunately, multiple ways exist to find your product variant IDs in Shopify, so you don't have to waste time searching for them.

1. Check Product Details

This is the quickest and easiest way to find a product variant ID in Shopify:

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin page and go to the Products section.
  2. Select the product that you want to find the variant ID for.
  3. Screenshot of the product section in a Shopify store as the first step to find a product variant ID

  4. Scroll down to the Variants section, where you'll see a list of all the variants for the selected product.
  5. Click on the Edit button next to the product variant.
  6. Screenshot of the variant section in a Shopify store as the second step to find a product variant ID

  7. Now, take a closer look at the URL in your browser's address bar. It should look something like this example:

  9. You'll notice a string of numbers after /variants/. This number is the unique variant ID for that particular product variant. In this example, the variant ID number is 45126661046577.

2. Go to the Storefront

If you don't want to bother with accessing the backend of your store, you can find your product variant ID directly on your storefront. Simply navigate to the product that contains the variant you need on your store's website and select that variant.

Once you have selected the variant, look at the URL in the address bar and find the number after variant=. This number is the variant ID.

3. Browse the Variants List

Shopify keeps a list of all existing products and variants in your store, which you can search to look up the variant ID you need. Browsing the variants list is the most complex approach because it's harder to find the specific product you want this way.

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin panel and go to the Products page.
  2. Click on the product that contains the variant you need the ID for.
  3. Screenshot of the product section in a Shopify store as the first step to find a product variant ID

  4. Scroll down to the Variants section and click Edit next to any of the variants.
  5. Screenshot of the variant section in a Shopify store as the second step to find a product variant ID

  6. On the left-hand side, you'll see a section containing the list of available variants right after the admin panel.
  7. Hover your mouse over the relevant variant. The variant ID will appear as a string of numbers after /variants/ at the bottom of your screen.
  8. Screenshot of the variant section in a Shopify store where hovering over the relevant variant shows its ID at the bottom of the screen

  9. Alternatively, you can also check the variant ID by clicking on the variant and examining the URL in the address bar.

Use Variant IDs to Simplify Your Shopify Store Management

Knowing where to find the variant IDs of your Shopify products means you can streamline your inventory management and order fulfillment because you can easily track your stock levels with each variant's unique code. Similarly, variant IDs help make sure that you update the right products when you want to make changes to prices or other product details. So, variant IDs are especially essential when you manage multiple Shopify stores or locations.

Use the method for finding variant IDs that's the simplest for you, and soon you'll be managing your store like a pro.
